The Brokedowns/Turkish Techno Split 7″ – To be honest up until listening to this record I was avoiding listening to Turkish Techno. I guess I assumed (based up their name) that they were a hipster indy rock band. Ok. So I am an idiot, that’s ok I realized it myself a long time ago. Turkish Techno is just straight up sing along, bass driven punk rock band that makes amazing songs. I can’t really think of someone to compare them too, but trust me there very good This was my introduction to The Brokedowns and what they had to offer on this little vinyl greeting card. For comparison purposes I would say they sound much like the great Off With Their Heads. Bold gruff vocals with stop and go melodies and pounding drums. It’s safe to say I think this record is well worth the couple of bucks that Traffic Street Records charges. With all the good stuff they have in store for your ears, you might want to start saving up now. It looks like they’ll be taking a lot of your money. 4/5 by Jonny Taint // Mohawk Radio
My favorite thing about The Brokedowns is the way they take risks and pull 'em off -but since I can't write for shit, we'll place our focus elsewhere and leave the description to Daryl at Razorcake, "Heavier and bolder with less harmony but more girth than Witches With Dicks, The Brokedowns rock that melodic aggression (see: Midwestern Songs… [duh]) that can have you nodding your head to the verses and then, as soon as the chorus comes, pump the fist." Turkish Techno haven't been around the block quite as many times as their partners on this split, but they've proven themselves to be fast learners. If Tiltwheel was faster, more agressive, and wrote 1-2 minute songs instead of 4-5 minute songs, they might just call themselves Turkish Techno. This record is limited to 400 copies -300 on black, 100 on clear.
